[THE PROCESS OF MADAME BOVARY]

Updated: May 5, 2024

A festive day in Paris,

Baudelaire raised his crystal goblet:

‘I announce the arrival of the prosecutor Pinard

For his famous trial in 1857.

The Sambre Lovers testified

Madame Bovary's confessions

Behind the sheets of the stage.

The story thus began us:

One afternoon near the Fountain,

The Raven spotted a jewel from the Nile.

Even though the Fox was calling to him

From the morning dew with his slice of Camembert,

His gaze remained fixed on the Wilde marvel.

To tell you the truth:

A blue summer evening on the Nile,

Rimbaud's swallow delivered to Madame Loisel

A passing note from her happy Prince.

For a thousand and one nights,

They exchanged a fraction of their ardent souls

To make a Parure of lascivious colours.

The impatient juror William S. exclaimed:

What you depict would be described as

‘Much ado about nothing’ in Messina.

Let's go straight to the climax, if you don't mind.

Flaubert inked his pen from his Pot of Bouille :

Madame Loisel disavowed her feelings

To the realisation that the eminent Prince was called Horla:

‘I am dying; I am dead; I am buried.’

The chronicle of Burgundy made a note in the Figaro :

No therapeutic act of Sganarelle

had the effect of sparing Madame

From her symptoms, which have remained historic at the Salpêtrière.
